Indigo and it’s a voice assistant that really knows how to carry on a conversation. Check out our review!

Google Now is the talk of the town these days, with rumors that it will be coming to Google.com soon, but there are alternatives out there, believe me. One of them is called Indigo and it’s a voice assistant that really knows how to carry on a conversation.

The thing about Indigo is that just like Siri it can also answer playful questions. Google Now doesn’t do that, since it has a more serious approach. The folks of Android Police asked the app when Iron Man 3 was coming out, but it must have understood something like “coming out of the closet”, since it declined to answer, which is cute and funny at the same time, if it’s real.

From my testing over the weekend, I’m impressed. Besides the generally accurate voice recognition and picking up cues from natural speech, which are no slouch, they have already implemented a few tricks that make the app stand out.

Apple should take note…Siri-ously.

Tomorrow users of Windows Phone and Android will get a chance to try out a new app that I’ve been playing with for a few days. The company, Artificial Solutions, has been innovating NLI (Natural Language Interaction) for other companies’ sites and gadgets, but now is releasing their own Indigo app. My red Nokia Lumia 920 has been officially upgraded with the presence of this app.

From my testing over the weekend, I’m impressed. Besides the generally accurate voice recognition and picking up cues from natural speech, which are no slouch, they have already implemented a few tricks that make the app stand out. Here are two that I find fascinating:

Cross Platform

You don’t need to get locked into a single ecosystem or manufacturer to enjoy this technology. Being able to use the same app on say your Android tablet and your Windows Phone is cool enough, but the wow factor for me happens with…

Context and Continuation

This is where the innovative thinking kicks in. I’m going to add their video because seeing is believing, but the cross-platform continuation means that if you bring up a search on that Android tablet and then grab your phone and go, you can continue the “conversation” seamlessly.

If you're not familiar with Indigo, you should be as we've covered it numerous times already. It's a cross-platform personal assistant for both Windows Phone and Android.

If you’re not familiar with Indigo, you should be as we’ve covered it numerous times already. It’s a cross-platform personal assistant for both Windows Phone and Android. We first looked at the upcoming app back at Mobile World Congress earlier this year. We then covered news that the company behind Indigo, Artificial Solutions announced that April 23rd is the date when the app will be released for Windows Phone and Android.

Now we’ve got our hands on a pre-release version of the beta, before it’s released to the store for public use. Spending a number of hours simply having a conversation with our Windows Phone has been rather humorous, as well as slightly strange. The app is actually really nice and handles speech input well with some strong integration with the operating system.

Here at Android Police, we love Google Now (and all the associated voice actions), but the natural language could use a bit of sprucing up. If you’d like to try an alternative voice assistant, Indigo may grab your attention on this front. The pitch here is that the app remembers your conversations and can sync those inquiries across devices.

If you ask a question like, “Where can I find Indian food around here?” you’ll get a list of results. Tap on the one you’re most interested in. You can then follow that up with “How can I get there?” From the context of your last question, the app can understand that “there” is “the indian restaurant.” It even works if you switch devices, provided they’re both logged in to the same account.

Hello Indigo, if you’re not already familiar with the name, is a personal assistant that’s set to be released later this month. Coming to Windows Phone 8 and Android on April 23rd, Indigo will enable consumers to have an intelligent conversation with the system that’s said to be able to understand everyday phrases. Think Siri, but more functional and offering numerous new features. We took a look at Indigo back at MWC.

If this is the case and Indigo really can understand speech input without requiring special commands, this could be pretty huge for the personal assistant craze. Windows Phone already has a well-established assistant called Ask Ziggy and Indigo will fit right in as a sibling, sporting similar functionality. Users of Indigo can even personalise the experience by building a profile on personal interest and hobbies.

Indigo is a cloud-based personal assistant app that you can download to your smartphone, tablet or computer.

Siri, the personal assistant, has been very popular ever since it was released on iPhone 4S and it has been one of the selling points of iPhone. Although many apps have tried to replicate the functionality on Android, they have not been very successful. A new personal assistant for Android and Windows Phone is in the works, named Indigo.

Indigo is a cloud-based personal assistant app that you can download to your smartphone, tablet or computer. With the app, you can manage pre-installed apps such as contacts, weather, maps, calendars, reminders and alarms as well as composing and sending texts, updating Facebook and sending tweets; all through the power of your voice.

We reported yesterday on Indigo, the new voice controlled personal assistant from Artificial Solutions and promised that we’d try and spend some time with the app here at MWC. Happily we have done just that and stopped by the Artificial Solutions booth a few hours ago to talk about their new service.

Indigo is just part of a larger system which Artificial Solutions are building, based around their own natural language engine and what they refer to as the ‘brain’, the Teneo Interaction Engine. It’s a smart looking service which we’re excited to see coming to Windows Phone, read on for more details on Teneo and a video hands on.

The feature that makes Indigo really stand out is Indigo's cloud-based syncing technology that allows you to ask Indigo a question on one device and continue the conversation on a separate device, since Indigo stores your history in the cloud and sends the results to the device you're currently using.

Indigo was unveiled at Mobile World Congress by Artificial Solutions, a company that develops award-winning Natural Language Interaction (NLI) software. Indigo is a cloud-based virtual assistant for Android smartphones, tablets and Windows Phone 8 smartphones. Indigo works in a similar fashion to Siri in that it lets you speak in a natural way when asking for information or performing different tasks. What sets it apart from Siri, of course, is that it’s a cross-platform app that will be available for Android and Windows Phone 8.

Indigo appears to be a more intelligent personal assistant due to the way it keeps track of information you’ve already asked for and it also remembers context. For instance, if you ask Indigo what time a certain movie is playing near you, you’ll get the results. You can then ask a question like “Who is starring in that?” a few hours later and Indigo gives you the results because it accesses your previous inquiry and gives you results based on that.

What we’re seeing here is the developers at Artificial Solutions creating a natural language service that you’ll not easily get away with speaking about without mentioning Apple’s Siri. The biggest difference is in the genes: unlike the iOS-based Siri, Indigo is coming to every platform the developers wish it to – iOS included (though later this year instead of immediately).

This app is what the company calls its first “highly intelligent personal assistant app”, and it works quite similarly to the ever-growing family of natural language-toting apps across the gamut. This means you’re working with the ability to ask questions or tell it to do tasks for you in several different ways, and it’ll remember your preferences while you do it. This app is fully prepared to work with developers from around the appsphere as well, with full SDK availability coming up immediately if not soon for you and yours – that means you’ll be able to call up any app that decides to integrate Indigo support.
